日本文学人気 The Appeal of Japanese Literature

 ヘルシンキ市内の書店に時々行くのですが、ここ数年でどんどん増えているジャンルがあります。そう、日本文学です。芥川龍之介や川端康成などの近代文学から、『コンビニ人間』のような現代小説まで、実に幅広いフィクションがフィンランド語でも英語でも楽しめます。

私は日本語が母国語なので、やはりオリジナルの日本語で書かれた物語を読みたいのですが、それでもフィンランドで手軽に楽しめる英語版を買って読むこともあります。

物語を通して、日本の文化や生活習慣に触れる人も多いのではないでしょうか。実は私の夫もその一人です。『コンビニ人間』を読んで以来、日本のコンビニ哲学（笑）に感動したようで、日本を訪れるたびにコンビニで陳列されている商品や店員の働きぶりに感心しています。

ちなみに、今、読んでいるのは柚木麻子の『バター』です。日本文学は奥深い！

I often visit bookstores in Helsinki, and over the past few years I have noticed one section steadily growing: Japanese literature. From classic authors such as Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and Yasunari Kawabata to contemporary novels like Convenience Store Woman, a wide range of Japanese fiction is now available in both Finnish and English.

Since Japanese is my native language, I usually prefer reading the original versions. But living in Finland, translated editions are often easier to access, so I sometimes pick them up for a light read. Many people probably discover aspects of Japanese culture and everyday life through these stories.

After reading Convenience Store Woman, my husband became fascinated with the “philosophy of Japanese convenience stores” portrayed in the novel. Whenever we visit Japan, he finds himself admiring the neatly arranged products and the dedication of the staff.

Right now I’m reading Butter by Asako Yuzuki. Japanese literature has great depth!
