独立記念日 Itsenäisyyspäivä

12月6日の土曜日は、フィンランドの108年目の独立記念日でした。街のあちこちで記念行事が行われ、家では窓際にキャンドルを2本立ててお祝いする習慣があります。子供たちも小学校でこの独立記念日やその歴史をしっかり学んできます。家では長女のフィンランド国歌の歌声が響きます（笑）。

街のカフェで見かけた独立記念日ケーキ！とっても可愛らしいのですが、そのお値段は日本円にして約1400円でございます…。高っ！

何はともあれ、フィンランドの平和が今後も維持されますように、と窓際のキャンドルの灯火を眺めながら思いました。

Saturday, December 6th was Finland’s 108th Independence Day. The city held ceremonies everywhere, and at home people celebrate by placing two candles by the window. Children learn about the history of Independence Day at school, and our eldest even sings the Finnish national anthem at home.

I found this adorable Independence Day cake at a café—about 1,400 yen! So expensive.
Looking at the warm candlelight by the window, I wished for Finland’s peace to continue.
